Celebrating a Super Star… the APPLE of Our Eye!
It was such an honor to go out and deliver recognition to Apple as our most recent Employee of the Month! We have had the absolute pleasure of working with Apple for close to five years now, and she has developed into an amazing caregiver and has become Napa’s go to caregiver for so many reasons. Apple has a positive, friendly approachable attitude and has been so extremely helpful, flexible and willing to jump in wherever needed. Apple has worked hard to develop her skill set, and is now an active member on both our Hospice and Alzheimer’s’/Dementia Care Teams.
She recently stepped in when we needed her on a hospice client with little notice, and they absolutely loved her. When we ask her to switch her shift out and run on over to assist with a difficult case in Marin … Read More »

New Guidelines and Recommendations for Diabetes Management
Important new diabetes management guidelines for seniors from the Endocrine Society.
The latest guidelines from the Endocrine Society concerning diabetes management and the elderly are unexpected, to say the least: lower blood sugar isn’t always best. And for individuals who’ve been maintaining a routine of finger pricks, insulin injections, and keeping careful track of food intake, this alteration may be a bit hard to swallow.
Known as de-intensification, geriatricians are now often taking the strategy with older adults that the benefits to be attained by aiming for rigid blood sugar control are not outweighing the health risks inherent with aging and illness. When A1c and blood sugar levels are held at low levels in the elderly, for instance, it may possibly result in an increased frequency of hypoglycemia and also kidney failure.

Family Caregivers, You’re Not Alone! Find Relief with Respite Care Services
Family caregivers can find the support they need with respite care services.
In spite of spending plenty of time with a senior loved one, family caregivers can often feel very isolated and alone. These feelings, although normal, can result in depression and other health problems if not kept in check. When family and friends are not available to help provide respite care services, there are several community service options that can help family caregivers care for their loved ones.
Senior Centers and Other Senior Organizations: Local senior centers often have programs or can offer other resources to family caregivers in need of respite.
Veterans’ Programs: Family caregivers who are caring for a veteran can explore whether the person is qualified to receive financial coverage for home care or adult day care.
Adult Day Care: For seniors who are well enough, … Read More »
