Advance Care Planning & The Conversation
April 16, 2014 was National Healthcare Decisions Day and I was fortunate enough to take part in an amazing event at the Kaiser Center in Oakland. In collaboration with several passionate volunteers and exhibitors from local hospices and healthcare industries, we broke down some of the stigmas and got to talking. Hundreds of people from all walks of life attended; many, sitting down to have The Conversation and complete their Advanced Healthcare Directive.
In our culture, it is taboo to discuss death; it is unsavory to discuss medical care; it is uncomfortable to talk with your friends and family about your wishes should you not be able to speak or act for yourself. Hired Hands is honored to announce Pat has been awarded Napa’s Caregiver of the Month for April 2014. Pat has been a dedicated caregiver with Hired Hands since May of 2010. Pat loves her job and greatly enjoys being a caregiver. She has worked with her current client for over 2 years, and they’re going strong! Recently, the family has told us they can always count on her and their mother sees Pat as a dear friend, much more than her caregiver.

Shirley has been with Hired Hands for over one year and brings with her Thirty Five years care giving experience! She always has a smile on her face and brings positive energy when she walks into a room. She really enjoys giving back to her clients and making them feel good about themselves. Shirley is an excellent cook and has shared her delicious home made cooking with many of her clients. Shirley is very compassionate as well as intuitive and stays tuned in to our clients needs and well being. Shirley was very excited to receive Employee of the Month Award and said it felt so good to know that she is appreciated.

Ann exemplifies dedication and devotion! We have had the honor of working with Ann for over 6 years, and during that time, she had been dedicated to the same client! Of course… the family absolutely adores Ann, and says that their mother would not be where she is without Ann, their “Mother Hen”. One of the most important components of Ann’s job with this particular client is helping her remain active in the community, escorting her to social gatherings, and to her daily pool exercises.
