2 Acronyms You Should Know When Considering Hiring At Home Caregivers
Hand it to the health care industry to come up with yet another couple of acronyms to add to their extensive list – ADLs and IADLs. These are prevalent terms in the healthcare field used to describe the routine self-care activities that an individual engages in on a regular basis to stay independent and healthy. It is also common for these acronyms to appear in conversations if you are looking for in-home care options for an older person, or if you are researching the cost of long-term senior care for yourself or someone you know.
Exploring Tri Valley Home Care Services Instead of a Nursing Home
“I never want to live in a nursing home.”
If you’re the child of an elderly parent, you’ve probably listened to your loved one speak those words or a similar sentiment signifying your parent’s wish to continue to age at home instead of moving to a long-term care facility. Truthfully, the majority of seniors want to remain in their own homes for as long as possible – for a variety of reasons. Home is the place they’ve lovingly created, so it’s where they feel the most comfortable. Living at home also brings meaning and purpose to one’s life. Moving Forward…

This was particularly impressive over the past two weeks as the situation changed constantly. Our office operations had to relocate due to power outages. Families were evacuated multiple times, often to far away locations. Evacuees even slept in our offices. Together, we worked around the clock as a focused Team, doing the best we could, … Read More »

Living with Multiple Sclerosis? Here’s How to Enhance Comfort at Home.
Jane Austen once said, “There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort.” And for someone with a chronic illness, such as multiple sclerosis, comfort is crucial, as is safety. If your loved one has been diagnosed with MS, the initial step in caregiving should be to make the appropriate adaptations so the home is a safe, comfortable sanctuary, and not a dangerous place.
Multiple sclerosis can cause getting around to be difficult, and because daily tasks — including recreational activities — can cause fatigue more quickly in those with MS, creating particular changes to the home environment can help conserve energy and enhance independence.
Some examples include:
Replace thick carpet with smooth, nonslip flooring for easier mobility
Place grab bars in the bathroom
Reposition furniture to widen pathways throughout the home
Include items in the tub or shower such as a handheld showerhead, a … Read More »
